Tribute to Traditional Chinese Music at Hilton Guangzhou Tianhe with Guzheng ‘Christmas & New Year Celebration Concert’

The musicians, all performers from the Zhen Ran musical institute in Guangzhou performed the traditional string instrument at the ‘Christmas & New Year Celebration Concert’.

Guzheng, also known as the Chinese harp, is one of the main instruments in Chinese traditional music. One of the most ancient Chinese musical instruments, it dates back 2,500 years to the Warring States Period. Historical records give vivid accounts of the haunting music. Hou Jin, a scholar of the Eastern Han Period (25 A.D. - 220 A.D.) wrote that it “touches the Heavens above and the Gods and spirits below”.

The modern guzheng repertoire is also influenced by western music, with younger generation players using plectrums to pluck the strings in order to play harmonies and accompaniments.
