You Can’t Beat a Bit of Old Fashioned Romance

Shanghai lovers can turn back the clocks to yesteryear with a romantic dinner that will give romancers young and old that Valentine’s loving feeling. Jimmy’s Kitchen has crafted a classic six-course sharing menu, priced at RMB 988 per couple, for the evening of February 14th to let lovers feast well into the night reminiscing about old times.
With more than 80 years of beloved gourmet dining behind it, Jimmy’s Kitchen is the ideal nostalgic setting for some good old romance. First opened in Shanghai in 1925, and expanded to Hong Kong in 1928, Jimmy’s Kitchen is the oldest continuously running Western restaurant in China. For Valentine’s Day, couples can roll back the years in the restaurant’s relaxing old school environment of leather tables, dark wood features and jazz music from Shanghai’s heyday.
The menu features a selection dishes from the vast cosmopolitan menu with sharing samplers to build the romance. The evening starts with Spiced gazpacho with poached lobster followed by a choice of soup including Lobster Bisque, baguette crouton, rouille sauce and Gruyère; and Double Ox Tail Consommé, spiked with chili and sherry. To Start, a platter to share combines Home Cured Norwegian salmon gravlax; Tuna tartar with cucumber and red radish salsa; Ibérico Ham with fennel grissini; and Duck liver mousse terrine with a Madera reduction.
Four distinctive Main Courses are available to choose from, with Pan roasted cod fillet, slow braised fennel, select crustacean, shellfish bouillabaisse; Herb roasted rack of lamb with truffled potato puree, tomato and rosemary jus; and Seared Grain Fed Beef Tenderloin, potato gratin, sautéed mushroom and a shallot and red wine sauce. To make the meal a real romantic sharing experience, diners can select Jimmy’s legendary Dry aged Australian grain fed prime rib of beef on the bone served with cauliflower Mac and cheese, sautéed seasonal vegetables shallot and red wine sauce to share for an additional RMB 300.
For Dessert, Jimmy’s sharing plate of Chocolate Lover’s Indulgence including Chocolate mousse with almond macaroons, White chocolate crème brûlée, Dark chocolate marquise, and Milk chocolate nougat parfait will offer a sweet end to an epic meal before coffee, tea and Petits Fours to finish.
