Six Senses Zighy Bay 4th Stop on Sailing Arabia the Tour, 2012

Zighy Bay, Musandam Peninsula, Sultanate of Oman, 16 January 2012 – Six Senses Zighy Bay has announced its second collaboration with Oman Sail’s Sailing Arabia – The Tour (SATT) 2012.

Starting from Manama, Bahrain and ending in Muscat, Oman, the route will traverse the Arabian Peninsula, with Six Senses Zighy Bay as the first stop entering Oman.  Touring through four nations and seven marinas, SATT sails over 1,408 kilometres in only 14 days, modelled after the internationally renowned Tour de France à la Voile, one of the world’s most famous offshore sailing events. In early 2011, Oman Sail established a regional alternative, SATT, the first international sailing regatta that joined together the nations of the Gulf to race competitively around the region.

On 23 February 2012, the fourth leg of SATT 2012 will finish in Zighy Marina. The fifth leg will depart on 25 February 2012, from Zighy Bay, Musandam, Oman and sail to Musannah, Oman.

Up to fifteen boats are entering this year’s race, including an all-female boat.  The boats allowed entry include the Farr 30, with a length of 9.43 metres, width of 3.07 metres, height of 14 metres, weight of 2.05 tons and draft of 2.1 metres. Also entering is the M34, with a length of 10.34 metres, width of 2.98 metres, height of 16.36 metres, weight of 2.7 tons and draft of 1.8 to 2.5 metres. Each boat is manned by six sailors; only one winner will take home the trophy in Muscat.

The inaugural tour of Sailing Arabia in 2011 also saw the completion of the fourth leg at Six Senses Zighy Bay. Following its great success, Six Senses Zighy Bay is delighted to welcome the Tour again.

“With such a rich maritime tradition, the Arabian Peninsula is the perfect route for a prestigious sailing tour; we are excited to again see the tour stop through our resort,” said Godfrey Vas, General Manager. “Last year, the sailors and race crew thoroughly enjoyed their time in our hideaway, and we hope that the Musandam stop of the Sailing Arabia Tour remains synonymous with SLOW LIFE at Six Senses Zighy Bay.”

A full day of in-port racing activities for the media is organized on Friday, 24 February 2012, culminating with a family-style barbecue event on the beach. Media and invited guests will have the opportunity to sail on board any of the boats with the crew for personal interviews and experiences.  The announced winners of the fourth leg will be presented at the event, as well as a raffle for a one-night stay at Six Senses Zighy Bay to the winning crew.
