Marriott Rewards

February 21, 2012

Marriott Rewards, the award-winning loyalty program of Marriott International, has unveiled a weekly promotional campaign, running until March 10, 2012, in partnership with China’s most popular microblogging site, Sina Weibo. Designed to engage Chinese members and drive new membership, the campaign gives Marriott Rewards members the opportunity to win special prizes by blogging about how they would share their rewards with friends.

The campaign, which can be accessed via http://weibo.com/marriottrewardsshare, offers the following attractive weekly prizes for Marriott Rewards members:

§         Three-night and three-room accommodation at JW Marriott Bangkok Hotel with daily breakfast and one evening buffet for six people.
§         A selected JW Marriott Hotel in China wine connoisseur event and set dinner for six people.
§         Six iPad 2s.
§         Six Marriott Rewards Gold Elite memberships, each with 25,000 Marriott Rewards bonus points.
§         Six Marriott TravelCards that can be used for enjoying spa services at Marriott International’s spas.
§         Five-night and three-room accommodation at the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel with six economy class return air tickets.

Marriott Rewards members living in Greater China, including Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, are encouraged to participate by inviting five friends to blog about how they would share the prizes on offer. Winners are selected based on the number of "votes" received and blog creativity. Throughout the promotion period, Marriott Rewards is also offering a Free Night Certificate to one voter per day.

“The growing popularity of Marriott Rewards in China is reflected by its soaring membership. At Marriott, we recognize the importance of connecting more closely with our Chinese members,” said Soo Lin, Director of Rewards Programs for Marriott International Asia Pacific. “By rolling out this creative initiative with Sina Weibo’s growing social media platform, Marriott Rewards is well poised to engage with avid Chinese travelers.”

According to the latest China Internet Network Information Center report, China boasted 250 million micro-bloggers at the end of 2011 – a four-fold increase upon 2010. Netizens’ active participation and discussion of different events on microblogging sites made them the hottest Internet service last year, attracting almost half of the country's Internet users. Sina Corp, the biggest Internet portal in China, also recently announced that the number of Sina Weibo users had reached 250 million.
