Scoops Coveted International Awards

Tuscany’s newest Asia-inspired masterpiece applauded among world’s top new hotels in 2010

Italy’s hottest new luxury hotel Il Salviatino is being internationally celebrated as Tuscany’s newest masterpiece, scooping prestigious accolades in the most coveted international awards for the world’s top new hotels in 2010.

Just minutes from the centre of Florence, the magnificent newly-restored 15th Century villa in the Fiesole hills was ranked on Condé Nast Traveller’s ‘Hot List 2010’ of the “66 coolest new hotels in the world”.

“Il Salviatino is very refined, and very Florentine,” applauds the leading travel magazine. “Every room is assigned a liveried 'service ambassador' who acts as a personal concierge and wish-fulfilling genie, and the Devarana Spa in the grounds, just above the three-level pool, ups the pamper-factor still further.”

Commenting on Il Salviatino’s inclusion on it prestigious ‘It List’ of the 45 Best New Hotels of 2010, Travel + Leisure magazine writes: “Villa San Michele—the international set’s palazzo of choice in the Florentine hills—has finally met its match with the arrival of Il Salviatino.

“Hidden among ancient cypress trees in Fiesole, the handsome 15th-century estate presents a secluded and peaceful haven with meticulously restored grounds. The relaxed residential ambience seamlessly blends Old World with New—from the stately wood-paneled library and the 17th-century oil paintings in the guest rooms to the white leather chesterfields, positioned on the terrace for admiring panoramic views of the Duomo.”

The 45-room villa with the first Devarana spa outside Asia is additionally nominated as Italy’s ‘Leading Boutique Hotel’ and ‘Europe’s Leading New Hotel’ in the World Travel Awards.

Boutique hotel experts Mr & Mrs Smith (www.mrandmrssmith.com) meanwhile included Il Salviatino in its ranking of the world’s ‘Top Ten Sexiest Hotel Bedrooms’, noting: “This 15th-century villa has all the ravishing good looks and debonair charms of a Merchant Ivory hero. Sweeping candlelit staircases, comely button-back sofas and cherub-sweetened frescoes soften an architectural grandeur that recalls the severely sexy set of Eyes Wide Shut.”

Luxury Travel Magazine also ranked Il Salviatino in its ranking of the 2009 World's Best New Hotels for “recreating a historic masterpiece featuring a daring combination of contemporary design and luxury with the sense of history and culture of 18th and 19th century Italy”.

Il Salviatino was developed by Italian hotel development and management company MPg, with service and attention to detail inspired by the Asian experiences of its President and Founder Marcello F. M. Pigozzo, who was formerly based in Hong Kong as President-Asia Pacific for Intercontinental Hotels.

He said: “The vision for transforming a rundown Renaissance villa into to a haven of supreme, contemporary luxury was inspired by the years I spent in Asia, which was the driving force behind the service culture we have instilled.

“While the villa itself is dramatically Italian, the service is inspired by Asia’s highest levels of excellence.”
