THAIFEX-World of Food Asia, Asia’s leading food and beverage trade show, is set to welcome some of the world’s leading talents in the culinary world at Bangkok’s prestigious IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Centre from 25 – 29 May 2016.
More than 1,046 aspiring chefs from 11 countries will pit their culinary skills against each other in a series of exhilarating culinary challenges. Coffee afficionados will also get a chance to witness greatness in action from 16of the world’s best baristas who will wow the crowd and impress the judges as they demonstrate their masterful skills.
This year’s record-breaking 80,000 sqm of exhibition space is a reflection of the growing international popularity of THAIFEX-World of Food Asia and its supporting programmes such as Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge and Celebrity Coffee Bar. The additional 10,000 sqm of space accomodates for the largest and most impressive line-up of products and services from across the world.
Chefs Go Head-To-Head In A Series of Exciting Culinary Battles

Asia’s largest chef competition is back this year with a bang! Now in its 5th edition, Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge continues to be the premier competition for the next generation of culinary talents to showcase their skills in a bid for culinary excellence. In this arena, budding chefs get an opportunity to transform ordinary food ingredients into plates of elegance.
This year, Thailand Ultimate Chef Challenge is introducing a new category – the ‘Bakery & Pastry Challenge’. This new class will cover a wide range of pastries that include creative cakes and desserts. This is in addition to the existing 22 classes such as the signature class ‘Mekong Culinary Challenge’, where a team of three will have a chance to showcase their knowledge, skills and creativity to present the unique culinary cultures and flavours of the Great Mekong River.
World Acclaimed Judges
Judges for the competition include award-winning author and chef, Charles Carroll, President of World Association of Chefs Societies and Chef Willment Leong, Founder Chairman of Thailand Culinary Academy. They are among a panel of 25 internationally acclaimed chefs, including 10 World Association of Chef’s Society (WACS) approved judges from 10 countries. They will critique the aspiring chefs based on a criteria rulebook which includes presentation, innovation, taste and texture, among others.

Ninety Plus Coffee Makes Its Debut
The biggest gathering of the coffee & tea industry in Thailand is set to take place at World of Coffee & Tea, a specialty show under the THAIFEX-World of Food Asia umbrella.
This year’s interactive Celebrity Coffee Bar presents a rare opportunity for visitors to witness a plethora of coffee talents under one roof. Visitors can get up close and personal with 16 of the world’s best baristas and judges, including three world barista champions like Japan’s Hidenori Izaki, World Barista Champion 2014, Greece’s Stefanos Domatiotis, World Brewers Cup Champion 2014, and George Koustoumpardis, World Coffee in Good Spirits Champion 2015. 11 national baristas and latte art champions and two World Barista Championship judges will also be present at this star-studded event. These celebrity baristas will demonstrate their skills in a series of interactive demonstrations, workshops and will also share their knowledge and expertise on the latest coffee trends.
Most Expensive Coffee
Also featured at Celebrity Coffee Bar is the debut of Ninety Plus Coffee. Retailing at US$100 per cup, it is one of the world’s most expensive brews. Described as one of the world’s most aromatic flavourful coffees, Ninety Plus Coffee has been recognized among the best in the world, chosen by multiple national and world champion baristas including Celebrity Coffee Bar’s very own celebrity baristas.
Insights, Training & Competitions
Visitors will also have an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and insights from industry insiders from La Marzocco via True Artisan Café where coffee enthusiasts can learn how to operate espresso machines and grinders while connecting with boutique coffee shops and micro-roasters from around the globe. Boncafe Training Sessions will focus on making the best frappes, smoothies and mocktails, all the while educating participants on the industry’s best practices and stringent food standards. To witness the best in creative cuppas, the annual CTI Latte Art Duel returns for another exciting competition to impress a panel of champion baristas.
THAIFEX-World of Food Asia prides itself on identifying industry’s trends, always bringing to the forefront the hottest food innovations and trending topics. Quirky products to look out for this year include a new gadget that allows you to fill your beer from the bottom-up, a unique twist on Asia‘s classic dumplings and instant ramen noodles packed with Malaysian flavours such as the iconic Penang assam laksa.
In addition, show navigation has been made easier thanks to THAIFEX-World of Food Asia’s new product zoning segmentation, making it easier for trade visitors to find the right product or partners. 11 trend topics have been clearly identified and includes gluten-free, halal, organic, kosher, health and functional foods, to name a few.
