The Old Man Bar

THE OLD MAN, A COCKTAIL BAR INSPIRED BY THE MEMORY OF DISTINGUISHED WRITER AND COCKTAIL LOVER ERNEST HEMINGWAY, TO OPEN THIS LATE JULY LED BY RENOWNED MIXOLOGIST, AGUNG PRABOWO

“Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated.”
– Ernest Hemingway, The Old Man and the Sea (1952)

The pre-eminent American novelist of his time, Ernest Hemingway also enjoyed a tipple or two. Inspired by the great writer’s understated style and sophisticated taste in local drinks, The Old Man is the brainchild of three of Hong Kong’s finest cocktail & bar pioneers, Agung Prabowo, James Tamang and Roman Ghale. With Agung at the helm and James and Roman leading day-to-day operations, the three ‘old men’ have finally brought their dreams of opening a bar together to fruition – and the product is nothing short of genius.

Opening in a discreet location on Aberdeen Street at the end of July, the unique new bar concept will sweep Hemingway fans and cocktail connoisseurs into a world tailored to the beautifully complex mind of the iconic writer. With a name, drinks menu and overall concept paying tribute to Ernest Hemingway’s Pulitzer Prize winning fictional work, The Old Man and the Sea, guests will get a taste of some truly inventive cocktails with an Asian touch by Agung Prabowo and his team. Prior to founding The Old Man, the legendary Prabowo held the impressive role of managing the Bar & Beverage program at Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong, before which he had also led Island Shangri-La’s award-winning bar at Lobster Bar & Grill to international acclaim.

Once stepping into The Old Man, guests will be enticed by the bar’s moody, charming vibe and eclectic offering of Hemingway-inspired drinks. This is the long anticipated bar concept that Hong Kong has been waiting for.
