Avoca at the Mondrian Hong Kong Welcomes Asia’s Top Bars for Guest Shifts in April

Dual Guest Shift Featuring Tokyo Confidential and Bar Wakabayashi,  Followed by a Special Visit from The Grasshopper Bar

Avoca at the Mondrian Hong Kong is proud to continue its guest shifts series—an exciting lineup of collaborations with top bars from around the region, bringing fresh energy to Avoca throughout the year. This April, the series will feature rotating talents, innovative flavours, and unique experiences, ensuring that each visit to Avoca is a new discovery. The inaugural event will take place on 4 April, 2025, with a dual guest shift featuring Tokyo Confidential and Bar Wakabayashi. This will be followed by a visit from The Grasshopper Bar, hailing from Makati, Philippines, on 16 April, 2025.

On 4 April, 2025, taking place from 8pm to 11pm. Avoca is thrilled to welcome Wakana Murata, Head Bartender of Tokyo Confidential and Yuichi Wakabayashi of Bar Wakabayashi for an unforgettable evening and exciting showcase from two of Tokyo’s finest establishments. Guests can also look forward to a live DJ performance, making it a night to remember.

Founded by Hong Kong’s very own Holly Graham, Tokyo Confidential was placed at #53 on Asia’s 50 Best Bars’ 2024 list, after only one year of being open. The menu at Tokyo Confidential highlights Waka and Holly’s shared love of Agave and Champagne, as well as lesser-known Japanese spirits such as Awamori and Nigori.  Head Bartender Wakana (Waka for short) describes her cocktails as ‘simple and minimal, yet complex and delicate in flavour, with fun twists and Japanese elements.’

Located in Tokyo’s Nishikamata neighbourhood, Bar Wakabayashi is helmed by Yuichi Wakabayashi, a former carpenter and tequila expert certified with the Japan Tequila Association. The drinks programme Bar Wakabayashi at offers something for everyone in addition to its substantial collection of tequila and mezcal.

On offer for guests to try, there will be four unique cocktails – two from each bar – available for one night only, with limited quantities available on a first-come, first-served basis:

From Tokyo Confidential –

  • HOKKAIDO HIGH  Torres T10 Brandy | Awamori | Corn Tea | Mango
  • CHESHIRE CAT GRIN  Iichiko Saiten | Vodka | Calvados | Lemon | Beetroot | Champagne

And from Bar Wakabayashi –

  • ELEGANT MARTINI  Iichiko Saiten | Hassaku | Clear Tomato | Fermentation Rhubarb | Neroli
  • COMPANERO – Solisca Tequila Reposado | Lemon Eucalyptus | Yellow Campari | Dry Vermouth | Loquat

Each cocktail is priced at HKD $138 (+10% SC).

Following this, Avoca will welcome The Grasshopper Bar from Makati City, Philippines for another dynamic evening on 16 April, 2025. An ingredient-forward cocktail bar that celebrates the overlooked and the underrated, The Grasshopper’s detailed menu celebrates hyperlocal ingredients to reintroduce them to the mainstream in new ways that feel familiar and approachable. The Grasshopper team makes it their responsibility to treat every ingredient with intention, recognising their deep cultural significance and showcasing each with the respect they deserve.
