Hermès Watches and Wonders 2025
Hermès Le temps suspendu & Scenography
Created in 2011, Le temps suspendu is the first functional expression of Hermès time. On the occasion of Watches and Wonders Geneva 2025, three new creations extend this vision: Arceau Le temps suspendu, Hermès Cut Le temps suspendu and Maillon libre offer a pause, a parenthesis in which temporality fades and is reinvented. To reveal them, visual artist Sarah-Anaïs Desbenoit has created a cinematic landscape, a sensory experience of suspended time.
Fluctuation is ever-present and all-pervasive. Images appear and then vanish, only to reappear transformed. The observer witnesses a landscape in motion. Through this space where glass filters the gaze, artificial sunlight alternates between dawn and dusk. This light loop orchestrates a constantly changing sequence. The oscillation between day and night slows time and imparts a unique rhythm to the place. Each step shifts the perspective and each look redefines it. This installation is never static, instead perpetually unfolding, retreating and transforming.
Architectural shapes emerge, creating their own distinctive vocabulary. Portholes reveal images of urban and seaside landscapes as experienced through the window of a train, a car or a boat. A road dotted with streetlights features miniature buildings. These silhouettes provide ideal settings for Hermès creations evoking familiar places without ever truly unveiling them: a water tower, a pavilion, a theatre set… Architectural fragments hover between memory and imagination, between what actually was and what might have been.
This scenography is immersed in an acoustic work. Barely perceptible echoes can be heard by those who truly listen: raindrops, the sound of a traffic light, snippets of conversation caught from behind a door. This score blurs the boundary between interiority and exteriority. Are we sheltered onlookers contemplating the outside world, or passengers capturing a fleeting moment through a window?
Sarah-Anaïs Desbenoit has never stopped observing places and their architecture. Her practice begins here, with a reflection focused on these spaces where time slows down. She offers a sublime portrayal of an everyday scene through the sense of latency that can be felt in a railway station at dawn when the first passengers have not yet arrived; in a hotel hallway when it is too late to meet anyone; or in an empty apartment whose inhabitants have just left. What remains of these liminal places? A trace? Perhaps the strange, paradoxical memory of time suspended…
Time Suspended
In 2025, Time suspended opens new parentheses. Beyond being purely mechanical, this is a bold approach that extends an invitation to break free from temporal constraints and seize the moment. In this restless race where every second is counted, Hermès offers its wearer time that truly counts. Launched in 2011, Time suspended is a playful expression of Hermès time. It is the embodiment of time as a friend, toying with conventions to better celebrate the present moment. By cultivating this paradox, the time we forget is the time we cherish. In 2025, Hermès has redesigned this singular complication on the Arceau and for the first time, offers this function in the Hermès Cut collection.
Arceau Le temps suspendu
A reinterpretation of the 2011 model, Arceau Le temps suspendu features a new aesthetic. Its slender 42 mm case frames an openworked dial revealing the exclusive “Time suspended” module.
The latter is driven by a Manufacture Hermès H1837 movement visible through the transparent caseback. The white or rose gold cases are paired with three colours – sunburst blue, brun désert, rouge sellier – reaffirming the timeless nature of the line with its characteristic asymmetrical lugs crafted in the Hermès Horloger workshops.
DISTINCTIVE FEATURES: 360° retrograde hour and minute hands. Retrograde date hand. Pusher-operated hands start-stop function (suspending time).
Hermès Cut Le temps suspendu
Unveiled in 2024, the Hermès Cut collection appears enhanced by the house’s emblematic complication. Its39 mm rose gold case with its sharp lines and bold geometry is equipped with the Time suspended module powered by the Manufacture Hermès H1912 movement. This surprising pairing is a playful nod, cultivating its versatility through its assertive allure and the suspension of time. The counterclockwise rotation of the running indicator adds to its quirky character. Available in several versions, including a one-shot model with a red dial, the Hermès Cut Le temps suspendu watch is designed to disrupt reference points and create unusual spaces.
DISTINCTIVE FEATURES: 360° retrograde hour and minute hands. Running indicator, 24-second counterclockwise rotation. Pusher-operated hands start-stop function (suspending time).
Maillon libre
With the Maillon libre collection, Hermès is exploring new territory. It reinterprets the iconic anchor chain link as a wristwatch and a brooch watch. With these two timepieces, the line stands out for its radical nature and the multiple ways it can be
worn, contrasting softness and tension in a contemporary yet universal spirit. The enigmatic and singular wristwatch appeals with its complex structure, its diamond or terracotta tourmaline centre stones and its undulating shapes. Meanwhile, the discreet, almost imperceptible display of time incorporated into the bracelet design adds a playful and surprising touch.
Arceau Rocabar de rire
A mischievous horse is depicted on the dial of the Arceau watch, which is adorned with horsehair marquetry, engraving and miniature painting. The gently teasing animal loves to play the clown and rather than going for a walk, he prefers to stay warm under his striped woollen blanket. Like a photograph, this whimsical and cheerful image comes to life on a hand-engraved and hand-painted mobile, driven by a spring mechanism connected to a 9 o’clock pusher. The prankster horse sticks out its tongue and flaunts its most beautiful profile against a background of colourful horsehair marquetry stripes. These combined crafts require patience, meticulous care and dexterity to unite them within the extremely small dial surface.
DISTINCTIVE FEATURES: “on-demand impulse” animation activated by a pusher at 9 o’clock
