Award-winning architectural and interior-design legend Jean-Michel Gathy, the principal designer atDenniston, is renowned for some of the most lauded luxury hotel interiors around the globe, designing for Mandarin Oriental, One&Only (most recently One&Only One Za’abeel in Dubai) and Aman New York. Janu Tokyo’s Janu Suite
In March 2024, Gathy unveiled the flagship hotel for the new Aman Brand, Janu Tokyo, blending a hint of Japanese influence with European design. Merging French inspired design with traditional Sakan wall plastering, Jean-Michel Gathy encapsulates the vibrancy of the Janu brand, fostering a vibrant and timeless atmosphere throughout the hotel.
The Janu Suite, the hotel’s largest suite features:
- 284 qm (3,057 sqft) of residential living space
- Breathtaking views of Tokyo Tower and Azabudai Hills Garden Plaza via its two balconies
- A private study/library room
- Double vanity bathroom, rain shower and soaking tub
One&Only One Za’abeel Dubai
Located in the beating heart of one of the world’s most dynamic cities, the first-ever vertical urban resort One&Only One Za’abeel Dubai opened in February 2024. Translating to ‘white sand’ in the local Emirati dialect, Gathy’s interiors draw a soulful and traditional aura that is intuitively woven into the resort’s DNA, with a soothing neutral colour palette and subtle sand motifs evident in its textiles, artworks, and sculptural lighting.
Having masterfully designed 3 suite categories, and a further 4 signature suites for the One&Only One Za’abeel, Jean-Michel Gathy’s designs are amongst the largest in Dubai.
- Za’abeel Suite – designed for seamless city living, offering 180-degree views of Dubai’s ever-evolving skyline
- Sanctuary Suites – in-room spa treatments and massage table for a pampering wellness stay

Aman New York’s Aman Suite
A feat of design engineering, this suite balances the subtle juxtaposition of many contrasts – old and new, East and West, natural and manmade, and even fire and water – to create what is seemingly a paradox: an urban sanctuary. In a further nod to Aman brand’s roots, each suite also features a large-scale art mural inspired by the 15th-century masterpiece Pine Trees (Shōrin-zu byōbu) by Hasegawa Tōhaku.
With an abundance of private space, Aman New York’s 83 contemporary suites are well-suited to longer stays and include:
- The largest one-bedroom suites in the Crown Building
- Each offers a functioning fireplace, a first for New York City
- The option to connect to Fifth Avenue’s Junior Suite, creating a two-bedroom space
- Dedicated office, kitchenette, and wet bar for entertaining
- Organic materials create a sense of harmony, a homage to Aman’s Resorts in the East
- Curated art collections adorn the walls, amongst reproductions of Tohaku’s Pine Trees
