The Liebling, Hong Kong’s first handcrafted luxury pet bed custom-made to seamlessly integrate with high-end home decor, launches today to offer discerning local pet owners a stylish, comfortable and customisable sleeping solution for their family companions. Conceived by award-winning interior designer Britta Butler – whose Hong Kong–based firm B Squared Design has completed a wide range of construction, renovation and full-scope interior design projects in Hong Kong, Singapore and the US – The Liebling is set to revolutionise the pet furniture market as the first pet bed that is to stand alone as a beautiful piece of furniture.

After a decade of designing upscale homes, and renovating her own, Butler (A.B. Harvard, MArch MIT) identified a gap in the market for beautifully crafted pet beds. “I scoured hundreds of stores worldwide, but everything available was either cookie-cutter or unattractive,” explains Butler, who lives with her own fur babies: a pug named Simba and a Frenchie named Nala. “As a devoted dog owner myself, I wanted to create something that not only provided ultimate comfort for pets, but also enhanced the aesthetic of any interior.

Pronounced “lee-bling,” in a nod to Butler’s background and first language of German, “liebling” is a term of endearment in German and her family’s nickname for her childhood dog Linus. When it came time to choose a name for her pet bed – Butler’s own labour of love – The Liebling was a perfect choice. It also fortuitously combines the English words “lie” (i.e. to rest, sleep) and “bling” (popular vernacular for luxury).

Meticulously handcrafted with love and care by artisans in a family-owned workshop with over 25 years of experience in bespoke furniture, The Liebling is as comfortable as it is beautiful, and durable enough to withstand daily, real-life use. It is available in three sizes to accommodate pets from 2 to 99 pounds, with durable frames in light oak, warm maple, dark walnut or leather. Clients can select from brushed gold, brushed nickel or matte black base finishes, with cushion covers in ivory, slate gray or charcoal, or request further customisation to meet their unique preferences and design needs. The inner cushion, made of natural shredded latex, is hypoallergenic, dust mite-resistant and provides joint pressure relief. A waterproof outer layer protects against accidents, while the removable, machine-washable cover made of the highest quality ultrasuede ensures easy maintenance.
