LLADRÓ雅緻Art Edition呈獻 藝術家Javier Calleja全新限量版《You Choose One》 驚喜亮相K11 MUSEA

The renowned Spanish artist Javier Calleja has collaborated with the Spanish porcelain brand LLADRÓ to create Art Editions — the “You Choose One” series, launching its latest Element 2, a limited edition of 150 porcelain sculptures, and showcasing it for the first time in Hong Kong. The exhibition is held at the immersive exhibition space, Gold Ball at K11 MUSEA, where the story of Javier Calleja’s “You Choose One” is presented from October 2 to October 13, 2024.

Javier Calleja’s New Porcelain Sculpture: “You Choose One — Limited Edition of 150”

As the first series of LLADRÓ’s Art Editions, “You Choose One” features 150 limited edition porcelain sculptures created by Spanish artist Javier Calleja. Element 1 of this collection made its debut at Art Basel Hong Kong and Miami Art Week 2024, receiving widespread acclaim, and continues its journey with the introduction of Element 2.

The limited edition “You Choose One” series consists of three porcelain pieces, each representing one of three characters made of porcelain and glass — Boy, Devil Cat, and Angel Cat. As the inaugural artist invited to participate in the Art Editions program, Calleja skillfully blends painting and sculpture with LLADRÓ’s handcrafted porcelain techniques. To craft this initial series, LLADRÓ’s team of in-house chemists developed over 4,000 color options, including brand-new shades and finishes, giving the sculptures a truly exceptional look.

The artist’s motivation is to evoke emotions in viewers and invite reflection on these vibrant, colorful, and seemingly innocent pieces. The “You Choose One” porcelain series showcases Calleja’s distinctive artistic perspective, translating his creativity into the world of handmade porcelain, and inviting people to connect with their emotions through the vivid, lively compositions. The three characters serve as a reminder of the “Jiminy Cricket” within us.

Despite the seemingly simple appearance, the handcrafted porcelain techniques behind the “You Choose One” series are intricately complex. The character “Boy” conveys a sense of pure innocence with his round head and oversized eyes, while the mischievous-looking “Devil Cat,” despite its name, appears more mysterious than menacing. With its tilted head, shiny yellow eyes, black face, small bat wings, golden horns, and pointed tail, Devil Cat’s small details are brought to life with a glossy finish.

On the other hand, “Angel Cat,” with its kind-hearted nature, displays a dreamy and contemplative expression. The sculpture primarily features a matte white tone, contrasted with vivid green eyes and angel wings that highlight its gentle characteristics.

A key feature of the “You Choose One” series is the combination of the noble durability of handcrafted porcelain with the glass material used for the characters’ expressive eyes — a significant element in both Calleja’s and LLADRÓ’s works. Each of the 150 limited-edition pieces is presented in custom-made wooden packaging, accompanied by a special certificate signed by the artist.
